Wise Business

US-priced multi-currency business account

Listed as a specialist international money-services alternative, outside the top operating-account picks. Wise is not a bank; its research score remains 80/100.

Research assessment: Useful cross-border payment, accounting, and team tools earn it a place in the shortlist. Its money-services structure and product restrictions reduce its fit as a full US operating-account replacement.

Fees
US pricing lists a one-time $31 fee for business features/account details and free balance holding. Transfer and conversion charges vary by currency and route; receiving USD wire/SWIFT payments is listed at $6.11.
Eligibility
Entity, tax-ID, owner, and real trading-address verification apply. Wise’s US verification page currently excludes businesses from Nevada and the listed US territories. A trading address must be in a supported country.
Non-US owners
Foreign beneficial owners can supply photo ID; US owners/residents have SSN requirements. Eligibility still depends on business registration, trading location, owner residence, and feature availability.
Industry limits
The acceptable-use policy restricts several business models, including certain financial services, crypto, adult content, and gambling. Check the full current policy and route-specific rules.
Deposit protection
Wise safeguards ordinary customer funds; that is different from FDIC insurance. Eligible US business customers may opt into its interest program, whose participating-bank deposits can qualify for pass-through coverage, subject to program limits and aggregation. Its current program bank is JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A. Eligibility excludes New York and Alaska registered addresses.

Read the deposit protection carefully

FDIC insurance generally covers up to $250,000 per depositor, per insured bank, per ownership category when an insured bank fails. Eligible sweep programs distribute deposits across banks to make higher total coverage possible.

A fintech is not itself FDIC-insured. Pass-through coverage depends on funds reaching an insured bank and satisfying ownership, recordkeeping, and other conditions. It does not insure a fintech’s bankruptcy, a technology outage, or investment losses.

Deposits held through different apps may sit at the same bank. Your other same-category deposits at that bank can reduce the remaining coverage. Check the program-bank list, actual allocations, exclusions, and your own balances.

Non-US entities

Non-US owners: US core plans

Mercury and Bluevine publish identifiable routes for eligible international owners of US entities. Relay and Slash need extra care because their current public ID/address instructions are not fully consistent. Brex requires real US operating/address presence. Chase requires case-specific document and branch checks. Bank of America’s cited corporation route requires US-resident applicants. Wise depends on registration, trading location, owner residence, and the requested feature.

Before you apply

  • Confirm the legal entity, owner-residence countries, operating address, tax IDs, and exact business model are eligible
  • Price your real month: subscription, wires, FX, cash deposits, check handling, and accelerated payments
  • Ask which bank holds your funds, when insurance starts, and which balances are investments or digital assets
  • Review account restrictions, funds-availability rules, and the current fee agreement before submitting an application
  • Keep accurate business and beneficial-owner records; no provider in this guide guarantees approval
